Abstract
One of the common elements between literature and cinema is the topic of time. Regarding time, there are two characteristic features; One, quantitative time which is objective and second, qualitative time which has a mental existence. Henri Bergson based his philosophical views on the concept of time on subjective consciousness. After that, Gilles Deleuze extended Bergson's view of time to cinema. The present research aims to do a comparative study of the concept of qualitative time in the novel Prince of Ihtjab and its film based on Deleuze's image-time perspective. According to this research, the author's use of the flow of the mind technique has led to breaking the linear time of the story, and this has led to the revelation of the time-image elements in the novel and its faithful adaptation. In this way, the basic components of time-image, which includes time crystal and involuntary memory, have appeared in this work as elements such as memory and dream, flashback, immobile character, crystal system and mirror. Each of these features have influenced the subjectification of the concept of time and the integration of the present and the past, and have created a broad generalization of time. Among the achievements of the present research, in addition to revealing the differences and similarities between the novel and the film The Prince of Ihtjab from the perspective of qualitative time, it is possible to point out the common elements that can be adapted in literature and cinema based on the concept of time.
