چکیده
کتاب مترجم دردها اثر جومپا لاهیری مجموعه‌ای از داستان‌های کوتاه است که بخش‌های عمدۀ آن بیان کنندۀ بحران هویت آمریکایی‌های هندی‌تبار یا هندیان مقیم آمریکا می‌باشد، مردمی که بین فرهنگ اجدادیِ خود و فرهنگ مدرن آمریکایی در آمد‌وشد هستند تا در جامعۀ هدف هویتی قابل قبول برای خود دست‌‌و‌پا کنند. این بحران فرهنگی بیان‌کنندۀ کشمکش‌های بی‌وقفۀ آمریکایی‌های هندی‌تبار برای بقای هویت خود و اتحاد هندی‌ها در آمریکا و یکپارچگی فرهنگی آن‌ها با جامعۀ آمریکاست. این گفتار، با بررسی سه داستان لاهیری، «موضوع موقت» و «وقتی آقای پیرزاده برای شام می‌آمد» و «جذاب»، تلاش می‌کند تا مفاهیم و ایده‌های مرتبط با مهاجرت از جمله «دوگانگی»، «تلفیق فرهنگی»، و حتی «حاشیه‌نشینی هندیان مهاجر» را ترسیم و بررسی نموده و بحران هویت مهاجرین هندی-بنگالی را مورد تحلیل قرار دهد. هدف این پژوهش تحلیل انتقادی دوگانگی هویت مهاجران در این سه داستان است که متأثر از ارتباط متقابل دو فرهنگ میهمان و میزبان می‌باشد. این پژوهش به دو دلیل اهمیت دارد: یکی اینکه توجه به بحران هویت مهاجرین هندی-بنگالی در آمریکا را برجسته می‌کند، و دیگر اینکه تلاشی است برای جلب توجه پژوهشگران مطالعات پسااستعماری به دوگانگی فرهنگی مهاجرین نسل دوم در آثار لاهیری. شایان ذکر است که روش پژوهش در این مطالعه نیز مطالعات پسا استعمارگری و ادبیات مهاجرت (دیاسپورا) در سایۀ نظرات منتقدین این حوزه ها می باشد.

چکیده English

The present research, attempts to uncover the ambivalence of Lahiri’s second-generation migrant characters who are invariably subject to hybridizing forces of the American culture as well as their attempts, either failed or successful, to transform, to adjust to the novelty, to settle on the middle ground, or to hold on to their own cultural values and identities. Exploiting the relevant short stories that mainly address the second-generation migrants, “A Temporary Matter,” “When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine,” and “Sexy,”. There will be an attempt in the up-coming pages to give exclusive attention to the inherited confusion of these migrants as heirs of diasporic ambivalence. It is hoped that the results of this study will be useful to those who want to further this or any other similar study of the issue of ambivalence in the second-generation migrants in Lahiri’s stories which so far has been rarely addressed separately by Lahiri scholars.
